Vehicles in Ministry
July, 2005
In an increasingly mobile world, dependent on
transportation, vehicles are a significant means of ministry.
Buses, trucks, vans and cars provide opportunity to serve. Many
churches have a bus ministry, which plays a very important role in
bringing children and their families to Jesus. Bus ministry is also
important in transporting passengers of ministry groups to and from
special events. A growing number of churches have a vehicle ministry
in which they supply transportation for those who are unable to meet
that need on their own, often providing a mentoring relationship with
these struggling families. Many of these churches take in donated
cars, repairing them and giving away the reliable ones, sometimes
offering benevolent repairs for the needy.
Christian ministries and missions use vehicles for transporting goods,
services and their members to areas of ministry. They are often
looking for donated cars, vans and trucks for ministry. JAARS, the
technical branch of Wycliffe Bible Translators, provides a service to
missionaries who need to move their goods to their place of ministry.
On the field, missionaries depend on vehicles to travel to places of
ministry and to transport essential goods and services. When a
missionary returns to the States for “furlough” or “Home Assignment”
they need to have immediate access to a vehicle. Their time will be
spent traveling to supporting churches and individuals to share what
God has done “on the field.” They will visit family and friends and
minister in camps, conferences, churches, etc. Acquiring and
maintaining a vehicle is often an insurmountable task.
Missionary TECH Team's Mechanical Services provides a safe and
reliable transportation solution, supplying rental cars and vans to
missionaries on furlough, as well as to Christian service workers.
Through the years, individuals interested in supporting worldwide
missionary work have graciously provided vehicles for the fleet. Most
of these are immediately available for use or sold to maintain TECH's
Mechanical Services ministry.
All leased vehicles are picked up or returned to the Mission’s
Longview location; off-site vehicle delivery and pickup service is
also provided. A purchasing service of previously owned vehicles is
available. Mechanical Services also makes approved repairs to bring
loaner vehicles into top running condition. In addition, Mechanical
Services repairs and services vehicles owned by other like-minded
ministries.
Missionaries from all over the world have used TECH’s vehicle service.
“You cannot imagine how this service has helped me!” is a common
comment heard from those returning a vehicle. Recently, Kyle and
Esther, missionaries with MAF, spent a brief time in the USA before
moving to a Far East country from Mali to minister as teachers to
missionary children. Kyle wrote, “We were very happy with the service.
We were relieved to have a working vehicle in good condition, as it
took a lot of pressure off us during our deputation time.” Robert and
Jeri, Baptist missionaries in Japan, drove one of TECH’s mini vans
while on furlough. They wrote, “This has met a big need in our life
and we give thanks to God and to you for it.” Assistance during a time
of renewing and ministry update is a vital way that TECH is involved
in sharing Christ all over the world.
